BRIEF
The aim of this project was to redesign the book cover for the novel ‘The Night Manager’, written by John le Carré. This was a live project, resulting in a submission for the Penguin Student Design Awards 2020.

RESPONSE
After reading the book, I noticed how the story's themes reminded me of the classic ‘James Bond’ films due to the main character’s style and class, along with the narrative's action and drama. For the cover's design, I decided to illustrate these themes through imagery by capturing a thrilling chase scene from the book between the main characters. As you can see, the main character (seen on the front cover) is chasing the story's villain (seen on the back cover) through the snowy mountains. In order to add flow and movement to the cover, I decided to have the imagery flow seamlessly from the front to the back. The majority of images were hand-drawn in order to add further detail and effect. Additionally, the cool toned colour palette was used in order to link back to the chilly, snowy setting while also adding a sense of seriousness.
